Singulair Product Description

Drug Uses

Singulair is a long-acting bronchodilator agent also known as leukotriene receptor antagonist. A single or daily intake of Singulair pills is useful for:

Management of asthma of various etiology and all grades of severity in patients over 2 years old.

Relief of symptoms of perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients aged 6 and 24 months, respectively.

Bronchodilator agent Singulair is effective for prophylaxis of asthma and other allergic disorders of respiration in patients aged over 2 years. Singulair is also indicated for prophylaxis of airway narrowing associated with high physical activity in patients over 6 years old.

The mechanism of Singulair action is in relaxation of the bronchi smooth muscles and expansion of the airways. For prevention and management of asthma symptoms, the adult patients should take one 10 mg tablet of Singulair spaced by 24-hour intervals.

Children and adolescents suffering from allergic rhinitis or asthma should take lower doses of Singulair than adults. The patients of this category should use a single oral granules or chewable Singulair tablet of 4 mg or 5 mg per day.

Missed dose

If you did not take Singulair as prescribed, do not take the leukotriene receptor antagonist at all on this day. Next day, return to the regular dosing schedule of Singulair.

More Information

Bronchodilator effect is achieved within 120 minutes after administration of Singulair tablets and maintained until the next dose. Optimal asthma control is observed within the first day of Singulair-therapy.

Storage

Film-coated tablets, oral granules and chewable tablets of Singulair should be stored in its original package at room temperature between 15°C to 30°C. The bronchodilator agent should be protected from exposure to bright light and excessive humidity.

Warnings

Singulair does not start acting right after intake, so at the initial stage of treatment of allergic rhinitis or asthma (including in asthma flare-up or attacks), the patient may need to use a short-acting bronchodilator.

Singulair Side Effects

Singulair is generally well tolerated, and any rare adverse events do not result in withdrawal of treatment of allergic disorder of the respiratory tract. The patients over 15 years old, taking the leukotriene receptor antagonist, are reported to complain of adverse events, such as: fatigue, indigestion, headache, increase in alanine aminotransferase, flu or rash.Children aged 2 to 14 years, while using Singulair tablets, may experience the following adverse events: thirst, sore throat, atopic eczema, sinus infection, middle ear infection, laryngitis, and bronchitis.
